Demetria Devonne Lovato was born on August 20, 1992 in Albuquerque, New Mexico to engineer and musician Patrick Martin Lovato (1960 — June 22, 2013) and former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader Dianna Lee Hart (born Dianna Lee Smith; August 8, 1962). Lovato has an older sister, Dallas (born February 4, 1988) a younger maternal half-sister, actress Madison De La Garza and an older paternal half-sister, Amber to whom she first spoke when she was 20.

Her parents divorced in the late summer of 1994, shortly after her second birthday. Lovato's father was of Mexican and Spanish descent and her mother is of northern European and Irish ancestry. Patrick's patrilineal great-grandmother, Maria Cristina Perea, was a daughter of Civil War Union veteran Francisco Perea (1830–1913) and a great-granddaughter of Santa Fe de Nuevo México governor Francisco Xavier Chávez.

Gets most of her clothes from Forever 21 and most of her shoes from Aldo.

Her favorite band is Paramore and her favorite song by them is Born for This.

Her father was of Mexican (Spanish and Native American) ancestry; his family was from New Mexico. Her mother has English, Scottish, and Northern Irish (Scots-Irish) ancestry.

I don't think there's going to be a day when I don't think about food or my body, but I'm living with it, and I wish I could tell young girls to find their safe place and stay with it.

·         If you are going through that dark period, go to your family and closest friends. Don't put yourself in danger. It's very crucial that you get your feelings out - but don't ever inflict harm on your own body because your body is so sacred. I wish I could tell every young girl with an eating disorder, or who has harmed herself in any way, that she's worthy of life and that her life has meaning. You can overcome and get through anything.

·         (on her friend Selena Gomez) Selena and I hadn't spoken in a long time. We just had some issues that we had to deal with. But the day I went into treatment I get a phone call from her and she was the one sobbing on the phone. She was like, 'Are you OK? I've been crying non-stop. Are you sure you're OK?' And, all issues aside, I started crying too and I'm like, 'Yes, I'm OK.'

·         (on Miley Cyrus) She sent me a Christmas present and that meant a lot to me because I didn't get Christmas presents in there (rehab)... I just have incredible friends.

·         [on whether she'll focus more on music, movies or TV in the future] I think I'm gonna stick with the combination. I get bored pretty easily. I can't do one or the other. I wanna continue to work as hard as I can. You'll see me all over.

·         [on her third album, Unbroken] [It will] show my true colors. I think it's finally the album that I've always wanted to make but I've never had the time to.

·         [on The Beatles song "Yesterday"] This song brings up so many memories and emotions because the lyrics are truly heartfelt and written with such incredible feeling in each word. The Beatles are such an inspiration to me.

·         There were two people [who were there for me]. No matter how many times we fight, we will always be in each others' lives. Miley Cyrus and I are strong headed. When we fight it's brutal and we're like, "We're never going to be friends again!" Then two days later, were like, "I love you and I miss you!" Selena Gomez and I, we never fight. She's not a confrontational person at all. Both of them will never leave my life no matter what happens, because we've been through so much together.

·         I'm not gonna lie. I was self-medicating. I was doing things like drinking and using [drugs], like a lot of teens do to numb their pain. [But now] I don't drink, I don't do drugs, I don't throw up after my meals, I don't starve myself. There's nothing that I do that I feel ashamed of.
